COURAGEworks is a research-based program developed on four key beliefs and grounded in Brené's thirteen years of research on courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy.
Vulnerability – the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome – is our greatest measure of courage. Vulnerability is at the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief and disappointment, but it's also the birthplace of love, belonging, innovation, and creativity - the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives.
If we are brave enough, often enough, we will fall. Getting back up requires us to turn toward the truth of our struggle and look it in the eye. When we deny our stories, they define us. When we run from struggle, we are never free.
Less Scarcity. More Daring.
People are tired of being afraid. The scarcity culture created by allowing fear and blame to run roughshod over our families, communities, and organizations can only be transformed by individual acts of daring.
We are all called to be brave with our lives and answering that call means choosing courage over comfort, choosing what's right over what's easy, practicing our values rather than professing them and leaning into our vulnerability.
COURAGEworks exists to transform the cultures of families and communities through connected learning and courageous conversations so that we can all answer the call to show up, be seen, and live brave, wholehearted lives.
How do the COURAGEworks eCourses work?
During the courses, participants will roll up their sleeves for hands-on, interactive explorations led by Brené. In each lesson, Brené guides you through reading assignments, lesson videos, exercise videos, and new ways to put the lessons into daily practices. It's a brave adventure.
The video lessons are available on-demand, so you will be able to review them at a time that fits your schedule! The only "live" portion of the class is the Q&A and that's recorded for on-demand viewing.
What are the required materials I will need for the eCourse?
With each license purchased, you will receive an eWorkbook full of activities and exercises. You can complete the workbook online electronically to print once you've finished the activities or you can print it first to complete by hand (for those of us who still love the feel of paper in our hands).
Once purchased, all course videos and the eWorkbook will be available online by accessing the eCourse site.
Each lesson will come with assigned or recommended readings. You can purchase the books directly from various sellers here.
What are the technology requirements to take the eCourse?
You'll need to enroll for the course through your computer, but once you've purchased, you'll be able to access the eCourse from any device so you can continue the course even while you're away from your desk.
Again, you can also print out your workbook, punch holes in it and make yourself a binder (old-school or, as we like to say, Brené style).
Will I be able to ask Brené questions directly?
Some courses include live Q&A sessions. During these sessions, Brené will address many frequently asked questions in these dynamic sessions with students who are working through the course.
Will there be other courses available through COURAGEworks?
Yes! We are working on several new classes. Stay connected for more information.
I'm taking the eCourse with friends, family or colleagues. What is the best way to do this class as a group?
Taking the eCourses as a group is a great approach! The classes are designed to promote learning through connection. Some of our courses allow for multiple-seat purchases and members of these groups will share in classroom discussion. If you're enrolling on your own, you'll choose a Class Group and share course discussion with like-minded peers. Regardless of the type of eCourse you're in, you can watch the videos as a group anytime. You can complete your assignments individually and then get together as a group to review your finished pages and the week's lessons. You can discuss questions and ideas posed during the lessons as a group.
How long will I have access to the videos and lessons?
As long as your account is active, the course will be there. You will have access to the lessons, videos, exercises, your completed workbook, the Q&A videos, and Forum content.
